DONALD G. WARREN OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Guidelines:
1. The Canadian Council for Exceptional Children Donald G. Warren Outstanding Achievement Award shall be presented to a person, group of persons, or an organization in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the well being of exceptional children and youth. This contribution should have national implications for improving the education of exceptional children and youth.
a) The Award shall be given for achievement related to one or more of the following:

• Teaching • Teacher Preparation • Research • Leadership • Program Development • Publication •

b) The submission must indicate for which of the above areas the submission is
being made.
c) For each area of achievement the perceived national implications must be outlined.
2. Only one Award shall be given in any year.
3. In the absence of nominations that meet the specific criteria, the Award may not be presented.
4. The Award shall be a Certificate.
5. Three copies of the nomination form and all supporting documentation must be received no later than the last day of January.
6. Nominations must be sent to: The Past President - The Canadian Council for Exceptional Children
7. The Awards Committee may request additional information from the provincial Federation.

BIOGRAPHY OF DONALD G. WARREN
Mr. Donald Grant Warren, B.A., M.Ed. was born in Brockville, Ontario, in 1914. He attended elementary and secondary school in Smith Falls, Ontario. Mr. Warren, a recipient of the Curtis Memorial Scholarship, received his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Queen's University in 1949, and his Master of Education from the University of Toronto in 1954. He was appointed inspector of the Ontario Ministry of Education. In 1954, Mr. Warren became Superintendent of Schools with the Niagara South Board of Education, and in 1969 was appointed Superintendent of Student Services. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Reading Association's organization as chairman in Canada from 1963-68. In September, 1973, Mr. Warren retired.
Mr. Warren was a member of CEC for thirty years, being a member of the original executive of the Ontario Federation 1955. He was Founding President of Ontario CASE, member of the founding executive of CEC-MF, and member of the Ad Hoc Committee studying the status of the Canadian Committee (1978-1979). Appointed June 6th, 1974, he was formerly the Executive Secretary and Treasurer, Canadian Council.

Mr. Warren was chairman of the Niagara Training and Educational agency, which retains the handicapped; a member of the Board of Directors, Child Development Centre and Niagara Centre for Youth Care; chairman for Niagara Recycling; and a charter member of the Niagara Falls Curling Club and Willo Dell Golf and Country Club. Mr. Warren attended Drummond Hill Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and a past convener of the Board of Managers.
Mr. Warren received an Outstanding Achievement Award from The Canadian Council for Exceptional Children in 1980.

In 1940, Mr. Warren joined the Armed Forces and served for six years in Canada, England and northwestern Europe with the Canadian Corps of Infantry. He was discharged with the rank of Captain in 1946. He was also a member of the Officer's Mess of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment.

Mr. Warren passed away on December 8th, 1993.
